Gianicolo hill, the ideal location: Rome with children
Visit Gianicolo hill to get the most stunning view of Rome and enjoy a perfect experience for the families with children, your kids will surely love this charming park!
Also called Janicolum, it's not one of the famous seven hills of the Eternal City, but it's very close to the historic center and to the Vatican. Get the most from your journey in Rome with children and explore a secret side of the Capital!
The first reason to reach the Gianicolo Hill is the fascinating and breathtaking sight you can get, specially at sunrise and at sunset (but also at night, when the domes of the larger churches are illuminated). Also at noon you can have an enticing moment, when the quiet is momentarily broken by the shot of a cannon, to mark the exact hour: it's an ancient tradition, dating back to the 18th century.
Walking on the paths pointed with busts of Italian Risorgimento's heroes, you will meet the equestrian sculpture of Giuseppe Garibaldi and the Teatrino di Pulcinella, an open air puppets theatre, one of the top attractions for children. It's a great occasion to discover the Neapolitan hand puppet Pulcinella, your kids will definitely appreciate it (and it's free)! The shows take place on saturday and sunday from 10,30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 4 to 7 p.m.
